esprit de l'escalier: On a Wednesday

Definition

[es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

On a Wednesday

This Wednesday morning was spent hanging out of second story windows, cleaning them inside and out. The afternoon consisted of moving mulch from a large pile in the driveway, up a hill and spreading it around. I would have preferred to be in the park next to the Art Institute, having an extended picnic lunch with my old work buddies. Oh well.
